Our ISBerne Family
ISBerne serves as a ‘home away from home’ for most of our families. As a result, our parent community is a key component of the heart and culture at ISBerne.
The Parent-Teacher Association (PTC) runs annual community events, as well as weekly and monthly coffee meet-ups, fitness groups and day trips.
From Power Walking to Bingo Night, you can feel the pulse of the PTC that underlies all of our community events.
The PTC holds a monthly meeting to discuss and coordinate events and activities at the school from the regular events listed below to supporting new activity ideas and initiatives such as a Flea Market and a Winter Crafts workshop.
Ongoing PTC Activites
Led by one of our long-term parents, this group meets once a week for a ‘touristic’ powerwalk around Berne with the objective of both fitness and exploring the local area.
This class is run by an ISBerne parent who is also a certified Pilates instructor. This class is held off-campus at the nearby Mattenhof and has a nominal fee.
The PTC organizes this monthly luncheon in order to explore the culinary options in the area.
Each month a different member opens their home to the group where the current book is discussed, and a future book is chosen.
Once a month a social coffee hour is held in the Aula on campus. This is a great time to casually get to know other parents without the commitment to an activity.
Elementary Library Volunteer Group
This group assists in staffing the library desk before and after school, checking books in and out, re-shelving reading materials, and light book repair.
The time commitment for volunteers can be as little as two half-hour sessions per month, after an initial morning of training with the school librarian.
Once enrolled, we invite you to attend the PTC meetings, held on the first Tuesday morning of each month during the school year, to find out what is going on with our vibrant parent community and how to participate!
The school year kicks off with a whole community barbeque. Parents and staff volunteer to run the grills and prepare side dishes.
Bingo Night is held every fall and is a popular night for the whole family. The PTC collects tables full of prizes and food to have on offer while the numbers are called out, and the winners yell BINGO!
This one is just for the grown-ups (but childcare is available and on-site) and is a guaranteed good time. Lots of laughs and tight competition as teams compete to win the grand prize of the night.
Our biggest event of the year, International Day is run by the PTC and is the longest standing tradition at ISBerne. Never is the multicultural ISBerne community more on display than on International Day, when locals join us to revel in the food, music, dance, and dress from around the world!
My son loves learning about the countries and cultures of his classmates; this is priceless.
The school gives a warm welcome to international children, focusing on social development and open-minded education.
The true multi-cultural community of ISBerne is a huge strength of the school. Students learn to debate each other and learn new points of view respectfully. A globally-minded child is very valuable.
My children truly enjoy learning about their classmates’ cultures and experiences. I hope they continue to be open-minded and tolerant when we return to the US.
ISBerne is vibrant, multi-cultural and open.
I love the community feel at ISBerne.
ISBerne is truly international and yet homey.
From the bottom of my heart; thank you. Our stay in Switzerland has been fantastic thanks to ISBerne!
